Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is bordered to the east by Essex and the to the north by Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. It is the borders to the south Greater London (Middlesex) and the west, Buckinghamshire that are significant to this family.

The martyrdom of Saint Alban took place on Holywell Hill in Verulamium in the 3rd Century. The remains of this Roman town can be found in modern day St. Albans.

The town of Hatfield is the home to Hatfield House and the Old Palace where Queen Elizabeth I spent her youth. Hatfield House has retained its association with her and exhibits many items associated with her.

This is where our maternal ancestors of Eggleton and Reding lived close to the Middlesex / Buckinghamshire borders.
