Middlesex is an old county that was bordered by Buckinghamshire to the west; Surrey to the south and Hertfordshire and Essex to the north. Although it ceased to exist in 1965 when large parts of it were subsumed into Greater London, it is still of significance to genealogists because many places in parish records, BMD records and censuses will state they are in Middlesex although they are part of London now.
Consequently many of our ancestors will have been residents of Middlesex at one time or other. If London is considered to be only the City of London (as it was originally) and we are only considering deceased people in this website which precedes the 1965 removal of Middlesex as a county, very few, if any, ancestors will have lived in London. Therefore any place names associated with our families in Middlesex may seem to be familiar today as parts of London; the same will apply to some parts of Surrey where our ancestors lived.
The families associated with living in Middlesex are many reflecting the move towards the capital in search of work: Andrews, Blakesely, Eggleton, Gillard, Gorman, Hill, Payne, Read, Roper and Wood
