Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire is considered to be in South East England with Warwickshire and Northamptonshire to the north; Wiltshire and Gloucestershire to the west; Buckinghamshire to the east and Berkshire and the River Thames to the south.

It is renowned as a seat of learning with the “dreaming spires” of Oxford University in existence from around the 12th Century.

This is where our maternal ancestors of PAYNE, AMBROSE and Crockford lived, mainly to the south of the county on the Berkshire borders, often in towns and villages that have since become part of Berkshire.
